Papua New Guinea’s top amateur-turned-professional boxer, Allan Oaike, has officially marked his entry into the pro ranks with an impressive debut win in Tamworth, Australia, last weekend. Oaike, one of PNG’s brightest boxing talents, showcased power, precision, and poise as he stopped Australian opponent Tony Ingram at 1:29 in the fourth round of a scheduled six-round bout.

The victory signals an exciting new chapter in Oaike’s career as he continues his transition from amateur to professional through the PNG Boxing Union’s (PNGBU) pathways system — a program designed to help the country’s elite boxers step up to the international stage.

PNG Boxing Union referee and judges’ director Kazu Temu, who travelled with Oaike to Australia, expressed immense pride upon arriving back in Port Moresby yesterday via Brisbane. “It’s a proud moment for PNG boxing,” Temu said. “Allan’s discipline, skill, and hard work paid off. This is the beginning of something special for him and for the future of professional boxing in Papua New Guinea.”

Oaike’s performance has not only raised his profile but also boosted the confidence of the national boxing fraternity, showing that PNG’s fighters can compete — and win — at professional levels abroad.

As Oaike returns home with his first pro victory under his belt, fans and officials alike are rallying behind him, believing that this is just the start of a promising journey for one of the nation’s finest boxing exports.
